Enoch walking with God

Walking with the Lord

Enoch was a remarkable figure known for his close walk with God. He was the great-grandfather of Noah and served as both a teacher and a prophet. In Jude 1:14, Enoch is noted for his prophecy to a wicked generation:

"Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, 'Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.'"

After having his son at the age of 65, Enoch walked faithfully with God for the next 300 years. Eventually, God took him from the earth, and he was no longer found.

Though Enoch's story is brief, it is both intriguing and significant. His life exemplifies a profound relationship with God and his prophetic role remains impactful.

Questions

→ What does 'walking with the Lord' mean to you?

→ Why do you think Enoch never died? What happens to us spiritually and physically when we spend a lot of time with God?

'And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him'

Genesis 5:24

Enoch prophesying

Strengths:

  • Closeness: Enoch's closeness with God led him to not even taste death
  • Prophesy: Enoch's prophesy comes with strength and is a call to repentance showing how he feared God, not man

Weaknesses:

  • Wake-up call: The Bible says that Enoch only began walking with God after having his son Methuselah which suggests that having a child is what was needed to wake him up and cause him to walk closely with God

Conclusion

Although we don't know much about Enoch, we can still learn that we should strive for closeness with God like that of Enoch and also a boldness to preach and prophesy to a fallen generation like that of today.

''For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life''

John 3:16
