Introduction:
Welcome to an insightful character overview of Eve. Here you'll learn about who Eve was, what she did, and her strengths and weaknesses. Also, we have provided questions related to the story of Eve to provoke thought. They can also be used for personal/small-group studies.
Glimpse: Eve was the first woman. She experienced the bliss of walking in a perfect world with no pain, no tears, no war. She walked alongside Adam (the first man) and they had everything they could ever want or need. However, Eve's ignorance left her in a vulnerable position which was taken advantage of by the snake that is Satan.
In Genesis 2, we see Eve being created from the rib of the first man, Adam.
The Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him” (Genesis 2:18).
Eve was given to Adam to support him and to stand alongside him and humans were given dominion over the whole earth. They lived in the Garden of Eden where everything was perfect and they were completely free. However, God gave them one strict rule: “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:16-17).
Questions
→ How important do you think this role is as a wife? What qualities should she have?
→ Do you think people still see these things as the role of the wife today?
"But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him"
In the Garden of Eden, a crafty serpent approached Eve and said, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1). This was the first seed of deception and doubt. Eve responded by explaining that God had commanded them not to eat or touch the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. However, the serpent continued its trickery, saying:
“You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:4-5).
The serpent persuaded Eve that God was afraid they would become like Him. Consequently, Eve succumbed to the temptation, ate the fruit, and then gave some to Adam, who also ate it.
Questions
→ How important are those who are close to you?
→ If they had everything they needed, why do you think they gave in to eating the fruit?
"And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.''
Instantly, Adam and Eve's eyes were opened, and though they did not die physically, they experienced spiritual death. God pronounced curses upon them due to their sin and banished them from the Garden of Eden, placing a cherubim to guard its entrance. Eve's curse was stated in Genesis 3:16:
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
Eve went on to give birth to Cain, Abel, and later Seth.
Questions
→ What stands out to you the most about Eves's story?
→ Why do you think it's so important to protect what God has given you?
“ therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”

Conclusion
Eve, like Adam, resembles the epitome of human nature. She had all she wanted but threw it all away because she couldn't control her curious and ambitious desires for more. We can learn from this that, although we all sin, God has now made a way for us to come back to him and spend time with him just like they did in the Garden of Eden. That garden is what God wanted for us all along. He placed it all under our authority and we lost it. But now, through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we can have hope and assurance that we have been saved from eternal death and given the gift of eternal life with Him forever.
''For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life''
